Il Tramonto (The Sunset) for String Quartet and Soprano
Quartet No. 2 for Soprano and Strings in f-sharp minor, Op 10
We welcome back to the Music Shed stage the famed soprano, Dawn Upshaw, in a program with the Brentano Quartet that has been acclaimed around the world. In addition to works for string quartet, including a new work by Matthew Aucoin, Ms. Upshaw will join the ensemble in two contrasting works for string quartet and soprano: Respighi’s Il Tramanto, “tonally plush and lingeringly Romantic” (The New York Times); and Schoenberg’s early Quartet No. 2 — considered the first example of atonality, breaking a 200-year tradition of music written in a particular key. Instead of considering it the end of tonality, think of it as the beginning of a new sound world.
Concert Tickets: $60 – $20, $10 (Young Adults 18-25), and Kids Come Free! (under 18)
