The Miró Quartet

Saturday, July 22 •  8:00PM •  Music Shed

Selections from Cypresses, B 11 (12 songs arr. for String Quartet)
String Quartet No. 4
String Quartet in d minor, Op 34

We welcome back the Miró Quartet after a 14-year absence from the Music Shed stage. The Austin Chronicle recently wrote of a performance by the Miró, “… taking that precarious ride with the Miró was like being inside a perfectly tuned Porsche with an expert hand at the wheel.”

We can expect more of that in this program, which is part of our 2017 mini-Festival exploring Dvořák’s influences and how national and regional heritage can shape a composer’s music. The Cypresses for String Quartet are ten love songs, later arranged for voice and piano by Dvořák, and his mid-life quartet in d minor was dedicated to his friend and mentor Johannes Brahms.
